Of Pizzas and more

The last few days have been so busy. With mundane tasks, kids, food and so many thoughts and words.

Last week, I met another courageous mom of a four year old with severe dairy allergies. A four year old who had never experienced the joy of pizza dates at her playschool. Of random and impromptu ice cream treats. And all the little things. The story struck a chord somewhere in my heart and bought back all the memories of our days gone by, of so much struggle.

It also made me more grateful than ever to be able to spend the time, energy and resources on something as basic as this. Seeing this as a sign, we sent a small pizza sample and what followed was so overwhelming. A four year old and her mom finally had a first pizza date- an emotional matter-of-fact moment.

What is so routine for some families, mean so differently for the rest. This mom in question finally confided that pizza was her most favorite thing in the world to eat, until she discovered her child’s allergies and that she had not touched it since. This and much more makes me believe that the word mom is also a synonym for the word sacrifice. That a mom will go to the end of the world to look for that one “routine” thing for her child.

And this made me think that I am not doing anything different via Karmic Foods. Yes, perhaps going out of my way and towards the end of the world for a few normal solutions, but aren’t we all doing the same, in our own small ways?

Here’s to all us moms! To me, to the emotional mom I recently met, to another wonderful new mom who is doing it all by herself, to my mom- for seeing my battles and breaking her heart a thousand times but still smiling. To us- we do not need a dedicated day to celebrate ourselves. For we have a whole lifetime to do what we have to do- with all our hearts and soul!
